LODLAM Training Day

LODLAM: Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums

Libraries, archives and museums have been managing and sharing structured data for hundreds if not thousands of years. Before there was the Internet and the World Wide Web, these institutions were figuring out how to make connections with computers. These repositories of knowledge were some of the first on the Web, finding new ways to promote free and open access to information. It's no wonder then that as we started to turn from a Web of documents to a Web of data, many of these institutions were ready to lead the charge, and the Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives & Museums (LODLAM) movement was born.

Three years and two international summits later, the LODLAM Training Day at SemTechBiz 2014 brings together a wide array of practitioners who have begun unlocking the scientific and cultural heritage of the world's memory institutions. They'll be showing real-world examples, teaching open source tools, and giving hands on instruction.

We'll group the day into two sections: Publishing, Sharing and Opening; and Discovery, Visualization and Reuse.

The sessions within each section are designed to build from novice to more advanced users, so should have something to offer for a wide variety of attendees. There will also be ample opportunity to make connections and dig deeper into the topics introduced here.

The LODLAM Training Day is co-located with the 10th Annual Semantic Technology & Business Conference (SemTechBiz), the 4th Annual NoSQL Now! conference, and the inaugural Cognitive Computing Forum (yes, a busy week in San Jose).

We are confident that you will get immense value from the LODLAM Training Day, but we have worked hard to provide you additional access to these other exciting events at deep discounts.

As an attendee of the LODLAM Training Day, you are eligible for a 50% discount off SemTechBiz registration pricing -- that's a steeper discount than is available anywhere else. If you would ALSO like to gain access to the NoSQL Now! and Cognitive Computing Forum, you may do so for another +250. That's three conferences -- plus the Training Day -- for as little as $822.50.

LODLAM represents an informal international network of people involved in opening, sharing and reusing cultural heritage and scientific data. You can get involved at http://lodlam.net or use #lodlam on Twitter. These are the kinds of things we do to help move ideas along and teach and learn from each other.
