Retail and commerce are prime targets for benefitting from Semantic Web and Linked Data technologies. From content to customers, there are countless benefits to utilizing these technologies to drive insight, product relationships, and personalization.

In this session, we look at scenarios in retail where technologies and standards like, SPARQL, and Linked Data can be leveraged to produce superior semantic data-driven experiences that delight customers and impact the bottom line. We'll explore how Semantic and Linked Data technologies can be used in a variety of different ways, including:

  • Producing personalized, contextual product experiences without the use of invasive tracking technologies
  • Better, more flexible product categorization with less manual work performed by humans
  • Enabling and enhancing long tail product discovery
  • Standards adoption happening right now in the retail industry and it's impacts on product data and discovery

As a Technologist at Best Buy, Jay has been active in promoting and speaking about Semantic Web, Linked & Structured Data for use in business to produce results that benefit both consumers and the enterprise. He has spoken at industry conferences, universities, and professional panels. He has been an active supporter of the GoodRelations vocabulary for ecommerce, structured data technologies, and was the co-author of the hProduct Microformat.
